President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has castigated the US government’s decision to impose a visa ban on Ugandan officials accused of undermining democracy.
On April 16, President Joe Biden administration’s Antony Blinken announced travel restrictions against Ugandans.
But secretary Blinken didn’t mention names of those against who the restrictions would work.
Reacting to the visa ban, Opondo described the visa ban as “cheap blackmail.”
The government spokesperson has urged Washington to list the affected officials and detail the crimes they committed.
“Without mentioning specific the specific officials by name, title, incidents and offences this so-called visa ban is neither here nor there,” said Opondo.
“More of a cheap blackmail.”
