The Police at Kira Road are investigating a fatal accident that occurred earlier today at Kayunga Road Junction along Acacia Avenue. The incident involved multiple vehicles and resulted in the loss of innocent lives.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, it is alleged that at approximately 0126 hours, a black Mercedes-Benz registration number UBL 189R, driven by Faziru Kimera of Buwate, was traveling at high speed from the Acacia side. Unfortunately, Mr. Faziru lost control of the vehicle upon reaching the Kayunga junction.
The vehicle collided with the road barriers, striking three street children who had sought shelter there. The Mercedes-Benz then continued its trajectory and collided with a white Toyota Mark X, registration number UBF 788K, which was approaching from the Mulago side.
Two people involved in the accident have since succumbed to injuries.
“Immediate action was taken in response to the incident. The injured victims were immediately rushed to Mulago Hospital, where unfortunately, two of the pedestrians succumbed to their injuries. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been impounded at Kira Road Police Station pending further inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles,” added Owoyesigyire.
“Furthermore, all drivers involved in the accident were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the families and friends who have lost their loved ones in this tragic incident. The Uganda Police Force is committed to conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this accident.”
