Tension as accused person beats security, enters Anti-Corruption Court with gun, threatens to shoot witnesses

Uganda Police says its Territorial Police at Jinja Road is investigating circumstances under which Cylus Sale Luzinda, an accused person, entered the Anti Corruption Court in Kololo Kampala with a gun.

It is a contravention of court security protocols for accused person to access temples of justice while armed.

But Luzinda accessed the Anti-Corruption Court with a star pistol with 13 rounds of ammunition.

He then gained access to the witnesses whom he began threatening to harm.

It was these witnesses who rushed out of court to tell police how Luzinda, who faces charges of receiving stolen property, was armed.

Police would later disarm Luzinda, and his pistol is now an exhibit.

It was not readily clear if Luzinda had an operation license for the firearm or not.

“The gun will also be forwarded for further forensic analysis to also establish whether it was electronically registered during the ongoing exercise of electronic registration of firearms and whether it has ever been used in any crime,” said police in a statement.

“The police have also taken action against the court orderlies, who were supposed to ensure that every person is effectively searched from head to toe, for failure to carry out their duties.”
