STRANDED: Chaos at Entebbe Airport as Incoming Travelers Spend All Night Waiting for Covid19 Test Results

Hundreds of travellers spent October 27 night stranded at the Entebbe International Airport waiting for the issuance of their Covid19 results.

New regulations by government now require incoming travelers to await test results before being allowed to proceed to their homes.

Covid19 positive travelers are compelled to go into quarantine.

Even fully vaccinated passengers who also have a negative PCR Covid19 test done within 72 hours are required to do another Covid19 test at Entebbe airport.

As the new rules took shape October 27.

Several incoming travelers had to spend the night at the country’s main airport for their results.

Others had to wait for up to 24 hours.

Left with no option, many slept at the airport.

Vianney Luggya, the spokesperson of Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) said “the situation is being addressed and we assure all passengers of a good experience through Entebbe Airport.”

“While we experienced teething challenges on the first day of mandatory testing for all incoming passengers, various stakeholders are doing their best to ensure a better experience,” added Luggya.

Health Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Ainebyoona said: “We are are working around the clock to address the delays in the processes at the Entebbe International Airport. The mandatory COVID-19 testing for in-coming travelers started today morning.”
