Uganda’s Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka has called out social media users who fabricated and spread the fake news of the sickness, airlifting to Germany and death of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.
A deep fake tweet published under a fabricated NTV Uganda account had claimed President Museveni had been flown to Germany for specialized treatment after suffering alleged breathing complications, occassioned by Covid19.
But hours later, Museveni appeared in public looking healthy.
Attorney General Kiwanuka noted that people had made it a habit to disrespect others online and get away with it.
He labelled such social media users irresponsible.
“The happenings on social media today reminded me of a statement attributed to Mike Tyson that:“Social media made y’all way too comfortable with disrespecting people and not getting punched in the face for it,” said the AG.
“This is so true!! We are simply irresponsible on these streets.”
When other tweeps claimed another top city tycoon had died, Kiryowa Kiwanuka said: “This is the kind of nonsense I have been talking about. Why are we so irresponsible?”
