Suspected CMI operatives arrested Dr Muganga from his office in Kampala on September 02.

Later, UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso revealed that Muganga faces charges of espionage and ill stay in Uganda.

Now, according to Gashumba, “Dr Lawrence Muganga is 100% a Ugandan, born and raised [in Uganda].”

He says it would be insanity to accuse Muganga of illegal stay in a country he was born in.

“His career has seen him work in different parts of the world. If the spokesperson of the UPDF can allege that he was brutally arrested on allegations that he had overstayed in Uganda, this madness is beyond!” said Gashumba.

“If at all he committed a crime, why would military operatives beat, and humiliate him before his staff and students? This was not an arrest. He was brutally manhandled and we do not know at this time where he is.”

He threatened to expose those who are harassing members of the Banyarwanda tribe in Uganda.

“We know that there are individuals in Uganda who are using Government and institutions to promote falsehoods. We are going to expose you one by one. As for me, if you want to kill me, here I am. Come for me! We shall not stop talking about the injustices in this country. Any injustice on any Ugandan, is an injustice to all of us, and we will fight to the last drop of our blood.”

The Sisimuka Uganda boss further condemned the manner in which Muganga’s bodyguard was arrested. He wondered why UPDF would disregard President Museveni’s recent condemnation of torture and such highhanded arrests.

“A uniformed female police officer who was attached to him was also roughed up and bundled in a Toyota Noah vehicle by the armed ununiformed people. Just two weeks back, the President Yoweri Museveni was on TV assuring the country that such atrocities cannot go on in Uganda under his watch.”

A few hours ago, Gashumba joined members of Muganga’s family and their lawyers in condemning the arrest of the academic.
