Incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, the 2021 presidential candidate of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party has spoken out on city protests sparked off by the arrest and detention of Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu aka Bobi Wine.

The November 18 and 19 protests saw scores of people killed and others injured, as police and the military battled rioters.

Now, speaking on the chaos for the first time, Museveni described Bobi Wine, his National Unity Platform (NUP) supporters and protesters as confused.

Museveni vowed to make it risky for anyone to attack other people because of political differences.

“Time will reach where people will fear even touching an NRM shirt on the roadside,” Museveni told NRM leaders in Karamoja region during a campaign meeting at Mayor’s Gardens in Kotido District on November 19.

“Those attacking NRM people in Kampala area, will soon lose appetite. They have entered an area we know very well. We’re not going to tolerate that.”

In power since 1986 and seeking to extend his rule to four decades, Museveni vowed to crush political opposition reportedly funded by foreign elements to distabilise Uganda through Arab Spring like protests.

“If they want to fight, that is the area we know best,” the president boasted of his government’s military might.

He insisted that all political players ought to play by the rules.

“We have lost a number of people to Covid19, including high profile politicians and scientists. Everybody must respect the rules,” he said.
