Stop dragging NRM CEC in speaker race politics using wrong forum: Moses Kigongo warns Kadaga, Minister Nankabirwa

National Resistance Movement (NRM) national chairman Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has tasked his deputy Moses Kigongo to mediate between Parliament speaker race candidates Rebecca Kadaga and Jacob Oulanyah.

On Wednesday, Kadaga and government chief whip Ruth Nankabirwa faced off in parliament after claims that the latter was undermining the former’s candidature.

The debate, that dragged in MPs, rotated around an NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC) ‘decision.’

On March 11, Kigongo, who also chairs the NRM national disciplinary committee, said he had “learnt with dismay the bickering, attacks, abuses on the floor of Parliament to the extent of dragging CEC of the NRM into the debate in the plenary on the election of the Speaker.”

In his warning to Kadaga and Nankabirwa against dragging CEC in speaker race politics, Kigongo advised that democracy be exercised “reasonably while conducting matters of national importance.”

He also cautioned members against discussing key matters in wrong fora.

“Rule 4(i) of the NRM code of conduct prohibits a member or a leader of the NRM to use the wrong forum in addressing pertinent issues,” said Kigongo.

Kigongo also preached the respect for the three arms of government.

“Institutions of government, namely the Executive, Judiciary and Legislature, must highly be respected and guarded,” he noted.

“I therefore call upon leaders and members of the general public to desist from acts that are disrespectful and lower the image of institutions of government.”
