After losing her bid for Kampala Woman MP, controversial academic and activist Dr Stella Nyanzi has told the opposition to unite, arguing that President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) would never be removed through an election.
Nyanzi of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) lost to Shamim Malende of the National Unity Platform (NUP) in the January 14 election.
She now says the opposition should come together and remove Museveni through other means other than elections.
Efforts at opposition unity have previously failed, with recent attempts through the United Forces of Change and Unity in Diversity bearing no fruit.
According to Nyanzi, opposition unity efforts should be bolstered to force Museveni out because “elective politics will not oust ‘dictator’ Museveni from power.”
“The opposition in Uganda must unite and resume working for the liberation of our country,” she appealed.
“Is Unity in Diversity spearheading this important turn in the liberation struggle? Is it the United Forces of Change? We urgently need a united front for all freedom fighters.”
