Police Operations director AIGP Edward Ochom issued a number of orders on dealing with ‘planned sustained riots by some members of the opposition’ March 08 evening.
The orders were sent out to Regional Police Commanders, DPCs, Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) Commander and all specialized units at 4pm Monday.
Hours later, KMP deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire warned those planning protests.
Ochom noted that “Intelligence reports indicate that some members of the opposition, especially NUP, are planning massively to riot.”
He ordered all RPCs, DPCs and unit commanders “to mobilise and put all personnel under their command to be on standby class one and deployments be made around black spots.”
The director of operations also commanders “to enhance visibility by enforcing foot and motorized movements with clear command and the telephone number of the team leader.”
He also directed that “road barriers and snap check points should be in place and officers need to check movements especially of the youth.”
Ochom also called for strict enforcement of Covid19 SOPs, particularly curfew hours.
