Kawempe North MP-elect Muhammad Ssegirinya says his first task in the 11th Parliament will be working on a bill to reduce MPs’ salaries tp Shs5m each.
Ssegirinya beat Latif Ssebagala Sengendo to become win an MP seat on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket.
Now, months to swearing-in, Ssegirinya is already promising to ensure that money spent on legislators is cut to improve service delivery.
He says he will present a private member’s bill to ensure that MPs’ salaries are cut.
Ugandan MPs earn about Shs25m.
“I want the MPs’ salaries reduced so that teacher and health workers who earn little can have a pay rise,” Ssegirinya told BBS’ morning show.
He also swore neither to buy a new car nor house but to share all the money he earns with the constituents.
