Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah didn’t ask government to fly him abroad but was ready to die at his home, Democratic Party (DP) president general Norbert Mao has said.
Oulanyah was flown to the US at a cost of almost Shs2bn, raising questions about the cost of treatment of government officials abroad. (Read story here).
Some opposition politicians and their supporters, in the country and the disapora, have protested the cost of Oulanyah’s travel and treatment abroad.
But according to Mao, Oulanyah had wanted to stay home and die in his house.
“Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah did not request anybody to take him out of Uganda,” said Mao on February 15.
“He was ready to die in his own house.”
Mao further challenged main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) party to use the public accounts committees they chair to query the expenditure on the treatment and travel of the deputy speaker.
He also asked government to publish expenditure on treatment of public officials abroad.
Meanwhile, deputy speaker Anita Among has spoken out on Oulanyah death rumors. (Read Story Here).
