First son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s short message after his father President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s sixth term swearing-in ceremony speaks volumes about how he is relieved the tension is finally over.

As commandant of the Special Forces Command (SFC), charged with presidential security, Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s task has in recent weeks been to ensure that threats to his father’s inauguration ceremony are dealt with, in liason with key security agencies.

Kainerugaba is also his father’s senior advisor in charge of special operations, most of them dealing with security.

With threats from Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) to block Museveni’s inauguration, and claims that Kyagulanyi was planning a parallel swearing-in ceremony in Iganga, tensions had built up, Kainerugaba’s work was well cut out, and SFC as well as other security agencies were on alert.

After Museveni took oath, Kainerugaba posted a short message praising God for enabling his father take oath.

The three-word message in Kiswahili seemed to say much about how the first son’s SFC and other agencies were working to secure the president’s inauguration.

“Ameapa. Bwana asifiwe. [He has taken oath. Praise be to the Lord,” said Lt Gen Kainerugaba.
