Should I grab Museveni’s collar & throw him out of State House? – Muntu responds to supporters telling him to be aggressive like Besigye

Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) presidential candidate Maj Gen (Rtd) Gregg Mugisha Muntu has responded to calls on him by his supporters who want him to as aggressive as veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye.

Muntu says calls on him to act aggressively have always come up, especially ever since he expressed interest in challenging incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni for the country’s top seat.

The former army commander says he has had to explain to people that contesting the presidency is neither a boxing match nor war.

He wondered whether his supporters want him to physically eject Museveni from State House.

“Every once in a while, I hear people say ‘Gen. Muntu would have been the right person to take over leadership of the country, but he’s not aggressive enough,” noted Muntu.

“I usually ask them what ways they want me to be more aggressive. We’re not in a gun fight or a boxing ring. Do you want me to go and hold Gen. Museveni by the collar and throw him out of State House? Do you want me to speak aggressively to scare him and he runs away?”

The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president notes that his focus is on building institutions, not personal strength.

“What I believe, we need to be able to take over and run the country better is the ability to build institutional strength, not individual strength or aggressiveness, because this is not an individual fight, and when we get into power, I will not work alone,” he explained.

“In fact it is this individualism of the Presidency that has us in the position that we are in as a country right now. We need to build institutions and structures so that when I become president, I serve my term and at the set time I hand over to the next elected person.”
