An opposition MP has claimed that two of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s brothers are involved in the illegal trade of premature fish as well as terrorizing and harassment of fishermen.
Moses Wagaba Kabuusu, the FDC MP representing Kyamuswa County, has alleged that Gen Caleb Akandwanaho aka Salim Saleh and Godfrey Sodo Aine Kaguta, both brothers to Museveni, are engaged in illegal fishing activities.
In his remarks during a recent event to observe the last funeral rites for the mother of Kalangala Woman MP Helen Nakimuli, MP Kabuusu also acknowledged that Sodo and Saleh are also involved in some legal fishing activities.
At the event held at Lukuba landing site in Kalangala District’s Bukasa Island, the opposition MP told those present that he was very certain that Saleh deals in immature fish and fish maw.
Kabuusu went on to allege that Sodo Aine Godfrey Kaguta is also dealing in immature fish.
The Pearl Times could not independently verify Kabuusu’s allegations that Saleh and Sodo are involved in the sale of immature fish and trade in fish maw.
But fishermen on Lake Victoria have previously accused officers of the Fisheries Protection Unit, which Gen Museveni assigned with the role of preventing illegal fishing, of harassment and extortion.
There are also reports that soldiers sell confiscated premature fish to well-connected dealers.
