Authorities in Bushenyi have today woken up to a rude shock after university students closed the gates to the district headquarters protesting lack of action from the security committee regarding the killing of their colleagues.
The students, said to be from Kampala International University (KIU) Western Campus, Valley University of Science and Technology (Vust) and the Kyambogo University Bushenyi Learning Center, are said to have locked the district headquarters’ gates early February 15, 2023, morning.
The students left behind statements demanding justice for their murdered colleagues while others wrote their demands on the walls. “RDC, we demand your statement on the killings of university students,” read one of the statements.
They also demanded a statement from the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), who heads the Bushenyi District Security Committee, on the the status of investigations into the recent killings of university students as well as measures on how to beef up security to prevent a repeat of the crimes.
The District Security Committee was expected to meet before issuing a statement on the status of investigations into the killing of university students and what was being done to make education institutions and hostels safer.
It should be remembered that a university student was in November 2022 reportedly raped and killed in Bushenyi, throwing students into fear. (Read Story Here).
