Evelyn Anite, the junior finance minister in charge of investment and privatization, and Dr Charles Ayume, the Koboko Municipality NRM flag bearer are trading accusations after September 04 primary election.
Dr Ayume, a former State House employee, beat Anite in the race for the municipality’s flag bearer for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.
But Anite accused Ayume’s supporters of setting ablaze the house of one of her agents.
The junior minister also claimed Ayume had ferried voters outside the municipality.
She also faulted the NRM Electoral Commission (EC) for failing to compile a register, and for allowing unregistered people to vote.
Speaking after he was declared winner Ayume reminded Anite that she had said was “the gateway to Koboko” but “the people of Koboko have the key and they have opened the gate.
“I will drive the NRM bus, she is free to join,” Ayume said.
He also said Anite had refused to pick his calls, because she wanted to send his sympathy upon her election loss.
Anite, who had promised to win 80 per cent of the vote, has been quoted by some online publications as saying she wouldn’t stand as an independent.
“No offense to Hon Anite but she’s too loud. I would dare her to stand as an independent, I’ll defeat her the second time,” Ayume challenged Anite.
Ayume further faulted Anite for failing the people of Koboko.
“The municipality is the face of the district, and I think it needed to be sanitized; the rest of Koboko will fall into place. I am the right man for the job,” he said.
“The shoes are big but are up for the task. If you compare us (Koboko) to the rest of the country, we have all lot of catching up to do.”
