Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Directorate of Education and Social Services (DESS), Directorate of Public Health and Environment (DPHE) and the Directorate of Administration and Human Resource (DAHR) have announced 10 special Covid19 vaccination centres for students, teaching and non-teaching staff members in education institutions.
In a statement, DESS director Juliet Nambi Namuddu sent to head teachers and principals of schools and education institutions in Kampala on August 23, KCCA said the move was in line with the reopening condition President Yoweri Museveni set.
“Further reference is made to the communication between the Hon. Minister for Education & Sports in her press release dated 16th August 2021, in which she emphasized vaccination of teachers, all support staff working in schools and learners above the age of 18 years, against Covid19,” said Director Namuddu.
“In view of the above, the Directorate of Education & Social Services – KCCA working with the Directorate of Public Health & Environment (DPHE) and the Directorate of Administration & Human Resource (DAHR), have made arrangements to have teachers and support staff in education institutions in Kampala schools (both public & private) vaccinated at the following schools, earmarked as vaccination centres.”
The schools designated as vaccination centres are: Bat Valley Primary School, Kitante Primary School, Namirembe Infant Primary School, Busega Primary School, St Peter’s Nsambya Primary School, St Denis Ssebugwawo SS, Kiswa Primary School, Ntinda Primary School, Makerere University Primary School and St Peter’s Kanyanya Primary School.
Namuddu went ahead to reveal the dates, timelines and the what is required of those coming for vaccination at the centres.
“The guidance from DPHE is that these schools will be vaccination centres for Teachers and support staff who are getting the first dose of the vaccine. Those who are due for the second dose should go to the Health Centres in the City. You [heads of education institutions] are requested to mobilise teachers and support staff in your respective schools, to be vaccinated at the above centres as guided. Please note that the exercise will start on Wednesday, 25th August 2021 to Saturday, 28th August 2021, as Phase 1,” read the KCCA notice.
“Should there be a need, the vaccination will continue/resume on Monday, 30th August 2021, the following week. Vaccination shall be on first come first serve basis and coupons will be availed to this effect. In addition, the DAHR is going to avail counsellors, 1 per school (vaccination centre) to provide support to any teacher who may require such services. The teachers and supporting staff should be advised to carry their school identity cards, national identity cards or some kind of introduction letter from the school.”
