Education and sports minister First lady Janet Kataaha Museveni has allowed international schools to reopen their gates to finalists (students in candidate classes).
According to Ministry of Education and Sports spokesperson Dr Dennis Mugimba, international schools requested Minister Ms Museveni to allow them reopen so that their finalists (candidates) can undertake their examinations.
Dr Mugimba explained that international schools followed the curriculum and academic calendar dictated by their mother institutions.
In their request to reopen, international schools noted that it would be difficult for them to conduct exams, especially practical ones, virtually.
“The minister of education has granted that request,” said Mugimba, emphasizing that Ms Museveni’s permission to the international schools did not mean reopening of these institutions but was meant to allow candidates sit their final year examinations.
He added that this was “the same arrangement” under which finalists and candidates were allowed to sit their final year exams (PLE, UCE, and UACE).
Mugimba asked for public understanding and urged that this should not be taken as a matter of selective reopening.
