The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced that first lady and minister Janet Kataaha Museveni will release the revised school calendar for the 2022 academic year.
Schools have been closed for almost two years since the declaration of the first lockdown in March 2020.
But in his recent address on the Covid19 response, President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni made it clear schools and all other sectors of the economy would be fully reopened in January 2022.
Now, education ministry spokesperson Dr Dennis Mugimba has revealed that all is set for Minister Ms Museveni to announce the reporting date for schools as well as release the revised calendar next week.
Dr Mugimba has been quoted as saying that the first lady will make the announcements in an address scheduled for Tuesday, December 14.
Higher education minister JC Muyingo recently revealed the proposed date for reopening of primary and secondary schools.
The address will offer answers to questions such as those on promotion to the next level, the abridged curriculum and national exams.
It is hoped that by then, the ministry will have handled outstanding issues such as how prevention guidelines will be enforced and what should be done for parents who had and those who hadn’t paid fees before closure of schools in March 2020 and June 2021.
