President Museveni

The Ministry of Public Service has revealed that President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s cabinet has not yet authorized the docket to release the new salary structure that will take effect in July 2022.

Government is said to have approved salary enhancements for a number of top health professionals in the country, starting in the 2022-23 financial year, which kicks off on July 01. (Read Story Here).

This prompted other health workers under the Allied Health Professionals Associations to announce that they will go on strike next month for being left behind. (Read Story Here).

The move to enhance salaries of government employees also left out teachers. (Read Story Here).

Secondary School science teachers reacted to the news with threats of a strike. (Read Story Here).

But according to Catherine Bitarakwate, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Service, “the information about the salary structure will be out as soon as Cabinet tells us to release it.”

The Ministry of Public Service is also treating some of the leaked salary structures as falsehoods and rumors.

It is not clear when the official salary structure will be released.

Meanwhile, PS Bitarakwate has revealed that all health workers — including morgue attendants — will receive salary increment in the next financial year. (Read Story Here).

MORE ON SALARY INCREMENT CIRCUS

In order to improve service delivery and end the challenge of strikes over low pay, President Museveni’s government has proposed huge salary increments for teachers, doctors and other employees starting July 2022. (Read Story Here)

The proposed increments have left many people wondering if government will really fulfill this pledge and increase salaries by very high amounts.

For example, opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has argued that the promise of salary increment is just ‘another lie.’ (Read Story Here).

Finance Minister Matia Kasaija recently said the money for increasing teachers’, doctors’ and other civil servants’ salaries was available. (Read Story Here).

In August 2021, cabinet approved salary increment for teachers, doctors and other health workers. (Read Story Here).

Meanwhile, an NRM MP has angered teachers after telling them they are too poor to go on strike. (Read Story Here).
