Keith Muhakanizi, the Permanent Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), and former Finance Ministry Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury (PSST), has passed on.
Muhakanizi was pronounced dead in Milan in Italy. The OPM PS had been flown to Italy at the weekend after his health condition worsened.
Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo tweeted: “SAD! A friend to many. Keith Muhakanizi, Permanent Secretary Prime Minister’s Office, and former long-serving PS Ministry of Finance & Secretary to the Treasury has died from a Milan, Italy hospital where he has receiving treatment. May he Rest in Peace.”
One of the economists behind the recovery of the Ugandan economy in the years after Museveni took over power, Muhakanizi served as PSST for long until he was replaced by youthful economist Ramathan Ggoobi. (See Details Here).
Muhakanizi death comes at a time when the OPM is on the spot over the Karamoja iron sheets scandal. Already, Minister Mary Goretti Kitutu has been remanded over the ‘mabaati’ saga. (See Details Here).
