Masaka regional police spokesperson Muhammad Nsubuga has confirmed the death of 14 people in a May 06 morning accident along Masaka Road.
The deaths followed “a head-on collision involving a commuter taxi and a trailer” along Masaka-Mbarara Highway at about 7am.
Nsubuga noted that a Tanzanian trailer registration number TH77 BVW / T433 BDY Mercedes Benz collided with a Toyota HiAce registration number UBE 995C that was coming from Sembabule-Matete and heading to Kampala.
“The trailer driver was overtaking on the wrong side of the road,” he said
The 14 dead people included five females, two male juveniles and seven male adults.

Katete Francis, a 58 year old resident of Mateete subcounty Sembabule District
Mudiiba Sharim, a female juvenile, aged 14 years, resident of Salaama Munyonyo Kampala District.
Natasha Rita, aged 18 years, resident of Bamwede LC1 Sembabule District.
The bodies of the victims have been conveyed to Masaka Regional Referral Hospital for Post mortem examination, continued Nsubuga.
“The wreckage of the vehicles have been taken to Masaka Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of vehicles,” he noted.
“One Victim who’s in critical condition is admitted at Masaka Regional Referral Hospital undergoing treatment.”
