Ronald Mayinja: Yes, I said Bobi Wine would beat Museveni – but it was a mistake they’re using to frame me

Singer Ronald Mayinja has admitted he told The Observer journalist Yudaya Nangonzi National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine would beat incumbent President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni but said he claimed he had said this by mistake and was not aware he was being recorded.

During the drama that ensued at the singer’s Munyonyo home on January 07, Mayinja had pleaded with Nangonzi to delete the interview recording on her mobile phone.

The female journalist had refused, prompting the singer to lock her inside his house, grab her phone and shatter it.

After failing to record a statement at Salama Road Police Station on January 08, Mayinja turned up at Katwe Police Station — which has since taken over the case — and recorded a statement on January 09.

Following the incident, Mayinja claimed the statements he made during the interview were being used to put him in trouble with the state.

“Yes. Because we all know and agree that Kyagulanyi is the next president. And I said that mistakenly didn’t know that she was recording,” wrote Mayinja.

“And they want to frame me now. But come January 14. Vote wisely.”

Previously associated with singer-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s People Power pressure group, Mayinja met Museveni at Kisozi in Gomba District.

Museveni gave Mayinja money and a vehicle, reportedly to help in the operations of Peace for All, All for Peace organization.
