Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has explained the meaning of his son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s name.
In his forties, Lt Gen Kainerugaba is the UPDF commander of land forces and senior presidential advisor on special operations.
To some political observers, Lt Gen Kainerugaba is Uganda’s crown prince.
As The Pearl Times has reported, the first son has said he believes the opposition is very disorganized and that he has the capacity to defeat them in an election. (Read story here).
Now, Museveni has explained why he named his son ‘Muhoozi.’
Speaking at the opening of the 2022 law year at the High Court in Kampala today, Museveni explained that Muhoozi is supposed to revenge on his behalf.
Museveni was trying to defend his calls for the ban on bail for suspected capital offenders.
“I’ve been quarreling about this issue of bail. It is provocation. In my culture, when you wrong me, my clan has a duty to avenge. That’s why when my son was born, I named him Muhoozi which means vengeance, such that when someone wrongs me he avenges,” explained Museveni.
“When we took over power, I told my constituency that no extra judicial killing, no looting, no raping, no corruption or embezzlement of government funds, no provoking people by insulting.”
Museveni said he believes in Moses’ law where those who kill should be killed.
“You kill a person, within a reasonable time, you are convicted. You killed, you must die; I don’t agree with the life sentence,” he noted.
