Revealed: Why Museveni invited Magufuli successor Suluhu for meeting in Kampala

Tanzania’s president Samia Hassan Suluhu will make her maiden visit to Uganda on Sunday, April 11, 2021.

Kampala has confirmed President Suluhu will meet her Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

Ahead of Sunday’s meeting, top officials from Tanzania have met Museveni and other key experts in oil and diplomacy.

Museveni has confirmed “discussing with High Powered Special Envoys sent by the President of Tanzania ahead of the Tripartite meeting scheduled for Sunday.”

“We discussed among others; issues to do with land compensation during the oil pipeline construction,” said the president.

According to the Public Diplomacy Department of Uganda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Suluhu will come to Uganda “at the invitation” of Museveni.

“The main purpose of this visit will be to further bolster the excellent bilateral relations between the Republic of Uganda and the United Republic of Tanzania,” read a statement by the department in part.

“During the visit, the Agreement for the East Africa Crude Oil Pipe Line (EACOP) Tripartite Project is expected to be concluded.”
