Uganda’s long serving leader President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has a held night telephone conversation with William Samoei Ruto, the president-elect of the Republic of Kenya.
Museveni called Ruto hours after the chaotic announcement, at the Bomas of Kenya, of the UDA candidate as the winner of a hotly contested presidential election.
Museveni did not reveal the details of his conversation with Ruto but hinted on the fact that it was meant to congratulate him on his victory.
Museveni also told Ruto what he thinks the new Kenyan president should prioritize in his administration. The Ugandan leader also assured Ruto of Kampala’s support and partnership.
“Further to my telephone call last night upon your victory, I wish to reassure you of Uganda’s commitment to continue partnering with Kenya in advancing regional and continental agenda through the East African Community, African Union and other multilateral platforms,” Museveni revealed on August 16.
“Our bilateral cooperation will score tremendous achievements and I look forward to working more closely with you. God bless Kenya. God bless East Africa. On behalf of all Ugandans, I congratulate Your Excellency William Ruto upon your election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya.”
