REVEALED: What Museveni, Kagame Discussed During Rwandan President’s First Visit in Four Years

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni hosted his Rwandan counterpart in Uganda for the first time in four years. 

On April 24, Kagame arrived in Uganda for a private visit, the first in four years. (Read Story Here).

Kampala and Kigali recently started on a path to restore relations.

A few months ago, Kigali reopened the Katuna/Gatuna border point after three years of closure.

At the heart of the restoration of relations — at least of on the face of it — is Lt Gen Kainerugaba, president Museveni’s son. (Read Story Here).

While in Uganda, Kagame attended a birthday dinner hosted in honor of Lt Gen Kainerugaba at State House Entebbe.

Museveni thanked Kagame for honoring his son Kainerugaba’s invitation to Uganda. ” I want to thank H.E Kagame for responding positively to Lt Gen Muhoozi’s invitation and coming to pay a visit to Uganda after years of not coming here,” said Uganda’s president.

He also revealed that bilateral talks with Kagame focused on “regional peace, stability and cooperation.”

During their meeting, Museveni also briefed Kagame on the talks between DR Congo’s government and M23 rebels.

Kagame and Museveni agreed to work with other East African Community (EAC) partners to address security challenges in DR Congo, the regional bloc’s newest member.

“This time, we must insist on working together because these people have suffered so much,” said Museveni, further warning that “if we don’t come in as a region DRC may become like Sudan.”

President Kagame called for talks between warring parties in the DR Congo, and emphasized the “need to talk without leaving anyone behind.”
