REVEALED: Here’s When Kenya’s Fifth President Will Be Announced; Results Tallying Complete

Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is expected to announce the official, verified and final results of the 2022 presidential election today afternoon.

On Tuesday, August 09, Kenyans went to the polls to choose a new president to succeed Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta whose second term has come to an end. Kenyatta, son to Kenya’s founding president Jomo Kenyatta, has ruled Kenya for two five-year terms since 2013.

According to the Kenyan constitution, Uhuru Kenyatta was not eligible for reelection but his deputy William Samoei Ruto was and he is one of the front runners in the race to State House. Kenyatta ditched Ruto and backed veteran opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga, son to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, the country’s first vice president.

Other candidates in the race were David Mwaure Waihiga of Agano Party and Prof George Wajackoyah of the Roots Party.

Since voting closed on August 09, Kenyans have been eagerly waiting for the results of the presidential election. Now it has been revealed that the announcement will be made today.

All is set for IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati to make the official announcement at 3pm on Monday, August 15, 2022. Choirs have been using songs to calm those gathered at the Bomas for the official announcement.
