REVEALED: Here’s the real truth about Bobi Wine’s NUP SG Rubongoya’s Relationship with Museveni

From his days at Makerere University where he served as speaker of students guild council, David Lewis Rubongoya was always close to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

For example, he was instrumental in helping then police chief IGP Gen Kale Kayihura in dealing with Makerere University protest leaders.

He would later pursue a degree at Harvard, with some claiming State House had sponsored him.

Photos of Rubongoya and Museveni have in recent years been littered online as ruling NRM propagandists sought to discredit him as an inconsistent politician.

Whenever these claims have always come up, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has always defended Rubongoya as having reformed and abandoned Museveni’s ship.

Weeks ago, reports emerged that Rubongoya was on Museveni’s list of Ugandans to be named ambassadors soon.

But the NUP secretary general has sworn he wouldn’t take up the job offer.

“I have not been offered any position as an Ambassador, and if it was offered to me, I wouldn’t take it,” he told NBS Face-off.

He then talked about his relationship with Museveni, describing him as a role model that betrayed him by pushing through the presidential age limit removal.

“Gen Museveni was at one time my role model and someone I really looked up to. However, when the issue of age limit came up and it was lifted, I felt betrayed and decided to quit his camp,” said Rubongoya.

“He himself had said he wouldn’t rule past 75 years. I saw this as betrayal because I thought 2016 would be the last time of him appearing on the ballot.”
