REVEALED: Different Groups Were Fighting to Take Over Lhubiriha SS, ADF Deadly Attack Happened a Day after Finance Audit by ‘Canadian Owner’ – Janet Museveni

Awaiting a report by Dr John Chrysostom Muyingo, the junior education minister in charge of higher education, First Lady Janet Kataaha Museveni has spoken out on the deadly attack by suspected ADF rebels on Lhubiriha Secondary School where about 40 students were killed. Janet Museveni, Uganda’s Minister of Education and Sports, also hinted on wrangles over the school before the Friday night attack.

During the attack, rebels threw a bomb into the boys’ dormitory after its occupants refused to open for them. The girls opened theirs and were cut with machetes, according to UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.

Speaking from State House Nakasero on Saturday, June 17, 2023, Janet Museveni condemned the attack and described the rebels as heartless people who want to harm the country’s children.

She then shared some of the allegations from preliminary investigations. That there was some sort of wrangle in which different groups of people were planning to take over the school.

These groups did not agree with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that started the education institution.

The NGO is said to be led by a Canadian whose operations are both in Uganda and her western neighbor of DR Congo.

“There are allegedly some groups from Kasese who wanted to take over the school. These clashed with the NGO that founded the school. This fact is not clear. However, this is some of the information that we have received so far,” said Janet Museveni

“This school is a private school, apparently built by NGO, led by somebody called Peter Hunter, Canadian working both in DRC and Uganda.”

The minister also talked of reports indicating that the attack happened after Peter Hunter’s auditors completed their audit of the school books of account.

But the First Lady was quick to clarify that this was not to suggest that there is a relationship between the audit and the attack.

“[That] his [Peter Hunter’s] group sent in auditors to monitor the school’s finances recently. They spent two days auditing books. They finished the audit and left the school on Thursday. The children were killed on Friday,” noted Janet Museveni.

“We are not saying we are relating the auditors’ visit to what Happened in the school but those are the facts we have.”
