Prime Minister Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has spoken out on reports that he wrote to President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni asking him not to include him on his next cabinet list.
Museveni is expected to announce a new cabinet next month as he embarks on another five-year term at the end of which he will have ruled Uganda for 40 years.
Reports had emerged that Rugunda, who replaced John Patrick Amama Mbabazi as premier in 2014, had penned a letter telling the appointing authority to exclude him from the draft cabinet list.
On April 13, Rugunda told reporters at Parliament that he had also read the reports of social media.
He dismissed these as “lies.”
“I have not written or talked to His Excellency the President about that,” the prime minister said.
“It’s a fabrication, a concoction by some people.”
Rugunda further assured Ugandans he still had the energy to serve Ugandans, and continue to make his contribution as a revolutionary.
“I don’t have any immediate plans to [retire] because I believe I am still able to work,” he added.
