A Ugandan company operating in the Western region has come up with a revolutionary campaign to work with members of the public to end vandalism of its equipment and infrastructure.
Officials at Kasese Cobalt Company Limited (KCCL), a company that runs different projects in Kasese District, says it has registered business threatening losses over vandalism.
According to the company officials, the increased cases of vandalism of the company’s equipment, infrastructure and properties within the area of operation have affected the reliability of their activities and cost them hundreds of millions of Shillings.
Unknown criminal elements have in recent months been vandalizing the company’s water pipelines from Kilembe, causing a water crisis in areas served by the company.
The thieves cut pipelines and sell their parts as scraps.
Ben Oweri, the KCCL Security Officer, has warned the public against engaging in vandalism, making it clear that whoever will be caught taking part in such vices will be dealt with in accordance to laws of Uganda.
The company has also promised to give a huge reward to anyone who report any criminal vandalizing property belong to KCCL to the police.
Barnabas Tamwanza, the Assistant Security Officer, reminded the public about KCCL activities which offer employment opportunities to the locals.
Isaca Kalyabyuma, the LCII Chairperson of Nyakabingo II, one of the affected areas, noted that key spot areas have been identified and they will soon carry out operations to apprehend vandals there.
