State House has confirmed that President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni will address the nation on his decision regarding the full re-opening of the economy or another lockdown.
In his recent address on the Covid19 response, Museveni had announced that the economy would fully reopen in January 2022.
But Covid19 cases have risen in the past week, crossing the 1,000 mark on most days before and after Christmas.
There are also fears that the newly discovered highly transmissible Omicron variant could upset the gains made in the Covid19 fight, and lead to cancellation of full re-opening plans across the world.
On December 27, President Museveni met the Covid19 Taskforce whose experts called for delayed reopening for two weeks.
But a State House official has advised Ugandans to wait for the President’s final announcement on reopening.
Now, Lindah Nabusayi Wamboka, the senior press secretary to President Museveni, has confirmed that the head of state will address Ugandans on the way forward on Friday live from his country home of Rwakitura in Kiruhura District.
Besides updates on Covid19 response in the country, Museveni will also deliver his New Year’s Day message to Ugandans on the same day.
“President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will this Friday December 31, 2021 address the Nation at 8pm from Rwakitura, Kiruhura District,” wrote Nabusayi.
“The address will be live on all Radios and Televisions.”
