Radio Manager Fined Shs200K for Beating Female Presenter Like a Chicken Thief

A court in the South Western Uganda District of Kanungu has fined an FM station manager Shs200,000 after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a female junior workmate.

Kanungu FM Station Manager Nelson Twinamatsiko was arrested a week after a video showing him beating up Anita Tumuramye, a presenter and cashier, over a commission for an advert.

On Wednesday, Twinamatsiko appeared before Kanungu Grade One Magistrate Asanasio Mukobi and pleaded guilty to assaulting and causing bodily harm to Tumuramye. He then pleaded for a lenient sentence.

Court in Kanungu District has sentenced the Kanungu FM station manager, Nelson Twinamatsiko to a fine of Shs200, 000 or serve a jail sentence of eight months after he pleaded guilty to charges of assault and occasioning actual bodily harm to his workmate.

Kanungu Grade One Magistrate Asanasio Mukobi delivered his ruling based on Twinamatsiko’s pleas and the arguments by the state prosecution. Twinamatsiko pleaded guilty to the offence and asked for a lenient sentence, arguing that he was a first time offender, was of advanced aged and had a family to look after, for which he is the sole bread winner.

But lead prosecutor Peter Muhendo asked court to slap a tough sentence on the radio manager to help deter other people from assaulting and causing bodily harm to junior employees the way Twinamatsiko did to Tumuramye.

In the end, Mukobi ruled: “Since the accused person has pleaded guilty to the offence and has not wasted court’s time, he is sentenced to a fine of Shs200,000,  in default serve a jail term of eight months.”
