Deleted: Posts about a meeting between National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and Venezuela opposition politician Juan Guaido have disappeared off Facebook and Twitter.
Recently, Bobi Wine told his followers he had held talks with Guaido, whom he said was Venezuela’s president.
“Very pleased to speak with President Juan Guaido of Venezuela this evening,” wrote Bobi Wine.
“We discussed the way forward for both countries, and the need to build synergies for the defence of democratic principles and human rights across the globe.”
Yet some people expected Bobi Wine to, by now, know that although the US and EU had sought to impose Guaido, a puppet of the west according to President Nicolas Maduro, the plot collapsed.
They also expected Bobi Wine to know that the EU and other western powers had withdrawn their support, and consequently stopped recognizing him as interim president after Maduro and his allies swept pariamentary polls months ago.
So, when the NUP principal said he had met President Guaido, he received a social media beating.
It is this backlash believed to have occasioned the posts’ deletion.
Although not readily clear who pulled down the posts, some reports indicate Bobi Wine ordered his social media assistants to delete the posts about the online meeting.
