PROTESTS TO REMOVE MUSEVENI: Bobi Wine’s NUP Breaks Silence

The National Unity Platform (NUP), Uganda’s main opposition political party has spoken out on reports of protests, beginning with a ‘stay at home’ for three days, intended to remove President Yoweri Kaguta Tibubuhaburwa Museveni from power.

Reports of ‘Kunga, Protests must fall’ protests which, according to police, would begin with people expressing their dissatisfaction with the manner in which government has handled the issue of rising commodity prices, and end up removing Museveni from power, were expected to begin on Monday, July 25.

On Sunday, Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said those planning the protests had been mobilizing Ugandans through videos, audios and text messages.

NUP, the political party that was said to be plotting the protests, has punched holes into a statement that was attributed to Mercy Walukamba, one of its leaders. In the statement, that now stands dismissed, Walukamba was said to be telling NUP leaders nd members to desist from joining protests against high commodity prices as well as demos intended to end Museveni’s rule.

“Another fake letter from regime apologists. Ignore and treat with contempt,” said the party in a short statement.

NUP secretary general tweeted: “When the government violates the rights of the people, insurrection is for the people, and for every portion thereof, the most sacred of rights and the most indispensable of duties.”

On Sunday, security spoke out on on a plot to remove Museveni from power, and vowing to crush protests. (Read Story Here).
