Protests in Kamuli as pro-Kadaga supporters call for ‘expulsion’ of Salaamu Musumba from District for suing speaker

Police and the army have heavily deployed in Kamuli to quell a wave of protests calling for former Woman MP candidate Salaamu Musumba to be chased from the district.

These are a result of last week’s petition by Musumba challenging Kadaga’s victory in the January 14 parliamentary election.

Through her Lawyers of Galisonga and Company Advocates and Isabirye and Company Advocates, Musumba wants the High Court in Jinja to nullify the result of the elections she claims was fraudulent.

She wants court to order a fresh election.

Her petition angered Kadaga’s supporters who now want her expelled from Kamuli.

Protesters started by blocking the road at Budhumbula Trading Centre and Kamuli Taxi Park to prevent any traffic in and out of the town.

However, Police, led by the District Police Commander (DPC) Mohammed Madiri, deployed all over the Municipality to restore order.

Protesters were also threatening to burn down former Woman MP candidate Salaamu Musumba’s Kamuli residence.

They accuse her of working with external forces to frustrate Speaker Rebecca Kadaga’s reelection bid.

In a telephone conversation with Pearl Times News on Saturday, however, Musumba denied being used by anyone insisting that her decision to petition was based on her quest for justice.

“The claims that I am being influenced by anyone are even ridiculous and laughable,” said Musumba.

“I participated in an election, I wasn’t satisfied with the outcome and I ran to court to seek redress. What then is there to be influenced about!”

On the same day, she said she was aware of a group organising mob action against her.

She however said she wouldn’t allow to be diverted and intimidated.
