Watchman Ministries Pastor and Prophet Elvis Mbonye’s disciple Joseph Kabuleta has announced he will run for president in the 2021 election.

Running under the ‘Reclaim Our Country and Kin (ROCK) slogan, Kabuleta is a critic of the President Yoweri Museveni leadership.

On Tuesday, he said his bid seeks financial liberation and equitable distribution of resources.

He listed oil production, presence of minerals, good climate and fertile soils as enough to “fill citizens of this nation with enthusiasm and expectation.”

“With the current leadership in place (or any ‘successor’ they might have in mind), most Ugandans will simply be observers rather than partakers in this wealth distribution.”

BREAKING THE CEILING?

He said his plan is to “break the ceiling… built over the decades that separates the privileged few at the apex of the income pyramid from everyone else.”

His strategy also includes liberating “the middle class, who for so long have been feeding off the crumbs that fell through.”

“We are here to break that ceiling; to create a system that will guarantee that the wealth of Uganda will belong to all Ugandans.”

He added that he will push for a Uganda that works for all, “not just a select few who perpetuate themselves in power for that very purpose.”

The former sports reporter also noted that Uganda was “heading into a golden era” of wealth exploration.

KABULETA’S TROUBLE WITH MUSEVENI AND MUHOOZI

In 2017, Kabuleta stole media headlines for kissing the shoes of Prophet Mbonye, the Zoe Ministries President.

As he announced his bid, he posted a photo of him and Prophet Mbonye.

He captioned the image with a scripture about Prophet Samuel anointing King David.

“Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.” (I Samuel 16:13).

Two years later, he got in trouble with the state for attacking First Son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba through his social media rants.

Some political observers see Lt Gen Kainerugaba as President Museveni’s preferred choice for successor.

Former spymaster Gen David Tinyefuza (Sejusa) got in trouble for broaching the ‘Muhoozi Project.’

He had claimed there was a plan to eliminate key government and military officials opposed to a plot to see Muhoozi succeed his father.

Museveni has ruled Uganda since 1986 and the question of succession remains unanswered.

In May 2020, Museveni told a local television that “the succession plan is in the Constitution.”

“You vote every five years. There is no problem with succession,” he said.“If I say I am no longer running, the people of Uganda will vote.”

KABULETA AND EC

Kabuleta says he has already informed the Electoral Commission (EC) of his plan to run for president.

The EC recently released the revised road map for 2021 elections.

But Kabuleta challenged this in court, saying it violated the rights of Ugandans.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), Uganda’s main opposition political party, said the road map would work in Museveni’s favor.

KABULETA AND POLITICAL COALITION

Before announcing his bid, Kabuleta had met with Uganda’s opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye.

He also met presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine.

Besigye and Bobi Wine recently unveiled a coalition.

But Besigye said the alliance was not about the 2021 presidential poll.
