PROFILE: Interesting Facts About Tom Magambo, the Man Replacing Fired CID Boss Grace Akullo

Tom Magambo is a lucky man. By the stroke of President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s pen, Magambo was elevated in rank, and assigned one of the most important roles in the Uganda Police Force (UPF).

Until his appointment, Magambo was a little known officer of the UPDF.

At the rank of private, Magambo worked at the Internal Security Organization (ISO).

Yet all this has changed now.

First, Museveni, the commander-in-chief of armed forces, promoted him from the rank to private to major.

This means he has leaped over a number of ranks.

Secondly, he appointed him the director of criminal intelligence and investigations at UPF, replacing long-service director Grace Akullo, who is said to be sick. (Read story here).

Until his appointment, Maj Magambo was the coordinator of East African Fusion and Liaison Unit (EA-FLU), which facilitates efforts against terrorism and transnational threats in the region.

At ISO, he was served as a director in the office of the director general.

A trained intelligence officer, Magambo also served as the director in charge of analysis.

Meanwhile, Museveni appointed a new deputy IGP. (Read story here).

Museveni has also fired CID director Grace Akullo. (See story here).

It has also emerged that Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, the fired CMI boss, could have had his fate sealed in the meeting between President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Museveni’s son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba. (Read story here).
