Money given to 529 Ugandan MPs to help them buy cars could have bought 7.5 million doses of Covid19 vaccines.
This week, Parliament started disbursing Shs200m to each of the 529 MPs in the 11th Parliament.
Here’s what else your MP will get – besides the Shs200m Car
But the disbursement, coming on the heels of an appeal, by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, for donations to buy Covid19 vaccines, has irked a section of Ugandans.
Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga says such critics are dishonest. (See: DISHONEST! Mathias Mpuuga Blasts Ugandans Criticizing MPs for Pocketing Shs200m Car Money each).
In total, tax payers will spend a Shs105.8bn (about $30.2m).
With each Covid19 Astrazeneca vaccine dose estimated at $4, the money could have procured almost 7.6 doses.
