POPULATION CENSUS RESULTS: See Ugandan Cities with Highest, Lowest Number of People

Preliminary results from the National Population and Housing Census 2024 have revealed Uganda’s most populous cities. Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) released the preliminary results of the census conducted last month.

Up to 4.27 million Ugandans (4,276,228) live in cities while 1.27 million (1,271,417) are visitors in cities (day population) every day.

Data released by UBOS indicates that Kampala, Uganda’s capital city, is the most populated city in the country with 1,875,834 residents. Kampala has 912,237 male residents and 963,597 female residents.

Kampala also has a day population of 627,340 people who are considered visitors. Day population means the number of people who visited the city during daytime in the last 14 days prior to the date of enumeration.

The second most populous city in Uganda is Arua. Arua City has a population of 380,824 residents, comprising 185,201 males and 195,623 females. The city has a day population (visitors) of 59,716 people.

In third place as the most populous city in Uganda is Jinja. Jinja City has 292,386 residents, comprising 143,519 males and 148,867 females. The city has 70,748 visitors every day (day population).

Mbale City is the fourth most populous city in Uganda in 2024. It has a resident population of 289,941. The city also has a day population of 81,685 people.

In fifth place is Masaka City, with 285,509 residents. Of these, 137,871 residents are males while 147,638 are females. Masaka City has a day population of 42,976 people (visitors).

Mbarara City is in sixth position. Mbarara has a resident population of 261,656 people. The city has 126,451 males and 135,205 females. Mbarara City has a day population (visitors) of 63,318 every day.

The seventh most populous city in Uganda is Lira. Lira City has 246,437 residents, of whom 119,119 are males and 127,318 females. Every day, Lira gets 57,620 visitors (day population).

In the eighth position is Gulu City which has 232,723 residents. Of these, 113,519 are males while 119,204 are females. Daily, Gulu City gets 91,165 visitors (day population).

In the eighth place is Hoima City which has a resident population of 141,442 residents. Of these, 68,419 are males while 70,363 are females. Hoima City’s day population stands at 48,633 people.

Fort Portal City has 135,702 residents. Of these, 65,339 are male residents while 70,363 females. The ninth most populous of Uganda’s cities, Fort Portal City has a day population of 41,292 people.

In the tenth position is Soroti City which has 133,774 residents and 86,924 visitors (day population).

Meanwhile, Uganda’s population has increased by over 10 million people. (See Details Here).
