Uganda Police Force (UPF) has started on an exercise to recruit 5,000 Probationer Police Constables (PPCs) as a way of improving its capacity, weeks after another batch was passed out.
Starting August 2019, police started on efforts to increase its numbers from about 38,000.
With the population of Uganda at about 40 million people, it means that each police officer is responsible for just over 1,000 people.
The 1:1,000 ratio is higher than the 1:500 recommended by the UN.
Police will now recruit more 5,000 people and the exercise started on September 07.
“Applications are therefore, invited from interested candidates beginning 7th September 2020 till the 19th September 2020, and should be submitted at the respective District/Divisional Police Headquarters,” announced police spokesperson Fred Enanga.
“The applications shall be transferred to Police Headquarters where a shortlist of successful candidates shall be processed and published for interviews at a date that will be released later.”
