Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Patrick Oboi has been arrested in connection with a traffic offence in Mbarara City on December 02.

A bodaboda carrying Amuriat knocked Mbarara District Police Commander (DPC) John Rutaagira as the barefooted defiant politician tried to dodge police blockades.

Police had ordered Amuriat to hold a meeting at Kakyeka Stadium, but he dodged police officers and passed through the city centre.

DPC Rutaagira had tried to block Amuriat’s bodaboda, but the motorcyclist refused to stop, knocking him down in the process.

Rutaagira’s attempt to rise up and block Amuriat was futile after another supporter pushed him away from the presidential candidate.

Now police has arrested Amuriat on December 04 morning as he headed to Rubirizi District.

Police intercepted Amuriat at Omu-Nkombe near Kyamuhunga on the Ishaka-Kasese Road and drove him towards Bushenyi District, and then to Mbarara City.

A statement from Uganda Police Force (UPF) confirmed that “the territorial police in Mbarara this morning summoned the FDC Presidential candidate Hon. Patrick Oboi Amuriat for statement recording over the disturbing incident of 02.12.2020, where they intentionally knocked the DPC Mbarara using a bodaboda and obstructed officers on lawful duty.”
