Police has spoken out on reports that a bomb blast had hit Akamwesi Mall in Kyebando, Kampala.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, there was no bomb blast at Akamwesi Mall.

Owoyesigyire said there was a “false alert” at the mall.

But bomb teams had found trash in the object people thought was a bomb.

“Please disregard all rumours circulating on social media that there has been a bomb blast at Akamwesi Mall in Kyebando,” said the deputy police publicist.

“Our expert teams responded to an alert, and upon object retrieval, our bomb squad found poorly disposed off rubbish.”

Owoyesigyire has warned Ugandans against spreading unverified reports on terror attacks.

“While we commend the high vigilance from the public, we appeal to stake holders, and the public to avoid release of unverified information as this may cause un necessary panick with in members of the public,” he said.
