PLEASE FORGIVE US: Museveni Apologizes to Kenyans Over Son Muhoozi’s ‘Careless’ Tweets

President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has apologized to Ugandans and Kenyans over his son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s reckless Twitter posts (tweets).

On October 03, Gen Kainerugaba whipped up a storm with Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) after joking about capturing the Kenyan capital Nairobi within a fortnight.

Muhoozi also argued that Uhuru Kenyatta should have thrown the Kenyan constitution aside and run for a third term, touting the revolution and frowning upon democracy.

Kenyans reacted with anger, ‘roasting’ Muhoozi. The Ugandan government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also told Kenyans to ignore Muhoozi’s tweets.

Now, Museveni has also issued a statement apologizing to Kenyans, Ugandans and all people his son might have wronged.

Gen Museveni also revealed that he had ‘confidentially’ conveyed his apologies to Kenyan President Dr William Samoei Ruto.

The Ugandan president added that Gen Muhoozi had expressed his views in a wrong forum.

“I ask our Kenyan brothers and sisters to forgive us for tweets sent by General Muhoozi, former Commander of Land Forces here, regarding the election matters in that great country.  It is not correct for Public officers, be they civilian or military, to comment or interfere in any way, in the internal affairs of brother countries.  The only available legitimate forum is the Peer Review Mechanism  of  the  African  Union  or  confidential interactions  among  us  or  EAC  and  AU  fora – not public comments,” wrote Museveni.

“Very  sorry, ndugu  zetu  Wakenya.    Also sorry  to  the  Ugandans who could have been annoyed by one of their officials meddling in the affairs of brother Kenya.   I know for a  fact  that  General  Muhoozi  is  a  passionate  Pan-Africanist.  However,  the  correct  method  for  Pan-Africanists  is  confidential  interactions  or  using  the available  fora  (EAC  and  AU),  especially  if  you  are  a Public officer.”

Following the careless tweets, Gen Museveni fired his son Muhoozi from his position as Commander of the UPDF Land Forces but promoted him to the rank of general, the highest in the Ugandan army, the UPDF. (Read Story Here).

Muhoozi’s next move remains unclear, but before he was ‘fired’ and promoted, the first son made a shocking revelation on his plans to take over from his father Gen Museveni in 2026. (Read Story Here).

However, there is confusion after Gen Muhoozi and ‘transition midwife’ Minister Norbert Mao revealed different years when Museveni is expected to peacefully hand over power. (Read Story Here).
