SPEAKER ANITA AMONG’S FULL SPEECH DURING SPECIAL SITTING TO HONOUR JACOB OULANYAH
I take this opportunity to thank the Lord for blessing this Parliament and indeed, the Country with the life of Rt. Hon. Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah.
He was a great leader, lawyer, legislator, debater and an advocate for peace and unity in Uganda and world over.
No one will forget the role the Late played in the peace talks between Government of Uganda and the Lord’s Resistance Army towards the pacification of Northern Uganda. Indeed his negotiation ability is something this country will greatly miss.
The Late Rt. Hon. Oulanyah was a devoted advocate of “Ubuntu” a loose reference to Humanity. He believed that everyone should be treated fairly and equitably. That is the man that lies before us today.
The Bible says we shall be known by the works of our hands and indeed Jacob was there for everyone when they needed him; that is why the entire nation is mourning this gallant son of Uganda.
As Parliament of Uganda, one of the ways we shall honour the legacy of our Late Speaker is by accomplishing his mission of achieving evidence based debate in the House.
I would like to most sincerely; thank His Excellency the President for doing everything Humanly possible for save the life of Right Honourable Oulanyah, including take him to one of the world’s best hospitals in Seattle, USA.
