UPDATE: PLEASE WAIT! Uneb Pushes PLE Results Release to Next Week
Assessment body Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) is expected to release results from the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations. The results for the examinations, which were conducted in November 2022 across the country, will be released by Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi Museveni, the first lady and Minister of Education and Sports.
Hundreds of thousands of candidates, 832,839 to be exact, sat their end of primary examinations at thousands of centres across the country. The exams were conducted during the Ebola pandemic, with the districts such as Mubende and Kassanda badly hit.
The examinations results that will be released include those for Kakumiro candidates who were given a special mathematics paper after they missed on the official one due to challenges with transport to the examination venue. (See Details Here).
Last week, Uneb executive director and secretary Dan Odongo revealed that the marking of PLE papers was completed before the Christmas break. A total of 5,544 examiners, mostly primary school teachers, conducted the marking of the papers for the four subjects: English, Mathematics, Social Studies and Integrated Science. The marking was conducted at 13 centres.
Also completed before the Christmas break was the marking of the O-level Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examination papers, whose results are expected late this month or in the first weeks of February 2023.
Following the end of the marking exercise, Odongo told Parliament’s Education Committee last week, the next step was for the security committee to handle the issue of candidates and schools (Uneb examination centres) involved in malpractice or cheating.
The Uneb security committee will decide which results to cancel or withhold and those to be released. After this decision, which The Pearl Times understands was finalized last week, Odongo and his team will brief Janet Museveni on the performance of the 2022 PLE examinations.
The briefing will happen at least two days before the release of the results. If the minister is available to preside over the release of the results any time this week, the results will be out. However, if she is unavailable, the release exercise could be pushed to next week.
