Officials from the Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) have revealed the best and worst done subjects in the 2022 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE), according to results released this Friday, January 27 at State House Nakasero in the capital Kampala.

Presiding over the 2022 PLE results release was first lady, also Education and Sports Minister Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi Museveni. Before Janet Museveni could officially release the results, Uneb officials gave insights into how the performance has been compared to the previous sitting of the end of primary education examinations.

Overall, candidates posted better performance compared to their counterparts who sat for the national exams in the 2020 lot. At distinction level, English, Mathematics, and integrated science where the best done subjects with the highest number of distinctions while Social Studies and Religious Education trailed.

Candidates registered commendable improvements in the performance in the English Language at both distinction and credit levels. The improvement was also noted in Mathematics at both levels. But there was a notable decline in performance in Social Studies.

“There was English a significant improvement in performance at the distinction and credit levels while the overall pass level remained the same. Mathematics had better performance at the Distinction and Credit pass levels. In Social Studies and Religious Education, performance declined at all levels, while Integrated Science recorded an overall improvement,” said Dan Odongo, Uneb’s executive secretary and director.

Overall, the number of candidates scoring zero in Uneb PLE papers has reduced significantly as the examinations body continues with its shift on asking questions related to real-life situations. But the zeros remained pronounced in the Mathematics subject.

“The number of candidates scoring zero in various subjects has generally decreased compared to previous years. In Mathematics, even those who scored zero showed mathematical language compared to work presented in the past years,” noted Odongo.
