President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni has recruited members of Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s National Unity Platform (NUP) into the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Museveni, also the NRM chairman, met members of the Kikankane Group at State House Entebbe on February 10.
I met a group of youths, formerly supporters of the National Unity Platform at State House Entebbe.
The president said he took the youths through an NRM ideological lecture “and disabused them of violence and destruction.”
He warned them against engaging in protests, but to embrace the ideals of the NRM.
“I am happy that they have seen the light, they now have the right spectacles and speak the language of Patriotism, Pan Africanism, and Social-Economic Transformation,” said Museveni.
“The NRM from the onset has been emphasizing the prosperity of all Ugandans without segregation or destruction. If we work and there is looting and riots, how shall we develop?”
One of the members identified as Ssebugwawo was quoted as saying they had achieved their target of reaching State House Entebbe.
“We had a saying in Luganda that ‘Tugenda Ntebbe m untebe’ [We are going to the seat of power in Entebbe] but we can no longer return to that side because we are now where we wanted to be [in State House], the promised land,” said Ssebugwawo.
